Continue ReadingI’m a lifelong Guiding Light fan, former NYC news writer/producer, and reality TV contestant writing a memoir about Guiding Light’s final years and the end of the New York City-produced soap opera era.
I’ve worked in broadcast news for CNN, MSNBC, WABC, and WCBS inside the CBS Broadcast Center in New York, just steps away from the Guiding Light soundstage during its final years.
What began as a childhood obsession eventually became something I never expected: I found myself working in the same building where Guiding Light was produced, watching an era of television come to an end from just outside the studio doors.
Over the years, I witnessed the dismantling of sets, the quiet end of production, and the disappearance of a world I grew up watching. I also kept small pieces of that history; old set photos, that would otherwise have been thrown away.
Today, I’m documenting those experiences through memoir writing and through Soap Opera Reviews, a project dedicated to Guiding Light, daytime television history, and broadcast-era storytelling.
