Beyond the Gates Recap - Friday, June 20, 2025 | Vanessa Plays With Fire as Kenneth Turns Up the Heat on Martin and Smitty Sniffs Out Trouble

In Friday's Beyond the Gates recap, the tension is thicker than Vernon’s wallet as Vanessa dives headfirst into danger, Smitty gets closer to unraveling corruption, and Kenneth makes it clear he’s not here to play nice. This BTG recap is packed with secrets, shady deals, and more than one man who should probably be looking over his shoulder.

Doug and Vanessa | BTG, CBS

Kenneth Isn’t Playing and Martin’s Shook

Well, guess what? Kenneth really did steal Martin’s keys, and he’s not even pretending to be sorry. When Martin confronts him, Kenneth drops the act and announces he’s an “avenging angel” sent to balance the scales. According to him, Martin had people clean up a mess two years ago, but he’s back to finish what got buried. Martin tries to bribe him, because that’s what rich guys do when they panic, but Kenneth spits venom instead. He hates Martin and everything he represents. Oh, and his brother would’ve hated him too, but he’s not around anymore. Kenneth is out here on a mission, and the storm he’s bringing? It’s coming fast.

Meanwhile, Vernon is one angry puppet master on the phone, swearing revenge on someone who let him down. Anita calls in with rave reviews about the Chicago show, but Martin has no time for couture. He fills Vernon in on his chat with Kenneth and how much damage the guy could do. Vernon says Kenneth might have actually handed them a solution, which is rich coming from the man who immediately gets on the phone and ominously mutters, “He’s back.” These men are spinning plots faster than fashion trends.

Vanessa Is Loving the Chaos a Little Too Much

Vanessa’s got Joey on the line, and while she’s busy being flirty and fearless, he’s growling with fury. She then turns her attention to Doug, announcing that she has a plan for dealing with their shared problem. Doug’s not exactly thrilled about her excitement, especially since she’s playing with fire, but Vanessa doesn’t care. She’s determined to dig up dirt on Joey’s illegal operation. Doug tries to put her in her place, but she reminds him that his gambling habit is the reason they’re stuck in this mess. He swears he’s out the second Joey gets his money.

Nicole crosses paths with Vanessa, asking if she’s alright. Vanessa’s response? She’s working on it. And if anyone has a problem with that, too bad.

Nicole Closes the Door on Ted

Ted’s been sending flowers like a man trying to buy forgiveness at a wholesale rate, but Nicole is not impressed. She walks into his office to shut it all down. The flowers? She gives them to the nurses. The visit? Strictly legal. Ted pleads for a second chance and says he wants to move back in, but Nicole slams the brakes. She’s not interested in playing house with the man who shattered her.

Through tears, she tells him he broke her, and all she sees when she looks at him is the smug, hateful face of Leslie. He tries to sell her on surviving the past, but Nicole makes it clear that while he’s working to save their marriage, she’s busy saving herself. When they pass again later at the nursing station, she doesn’t even let herself linger. Sad or not, she keeps walking.

Smitty’s Closing In and People Are Getting Nervous

Smitty strolls into the police station and asks Jacob for help, suggesting they talk somewhere private. Unfortunately, Chief overhears just enough to realize that the noose is tightening. Suddenly everyone is scrambling. Jacob is stunned to learn that Smitty’s investigation leads right to his own partner, and it looks like Joey is making payments to Officer Armstrong. If that’s true, this corruption runs deeper than anyone expected.

While Marcel and the chief are supposedly just playing poker with Doug, they’re clearly plotting their next move. Vanessa barges in and immediately knows they weren’t just there for cards. Elon and Marcel beat a hasty retreat, and Doug tries to deflect. But Vanessa isn’t buying it. Doug tries warning her to keep out of his world, saying if she ever saw what he does, she’d run. But Vanessa? She leans in and tells him to bring it. She’s not scared. She’s ready. Try her.
