Breakfast with Drama on the Side

Over in the Hernandez kitchen, Leo is already casting the movie version of Johnny’s trial with himself as the obvious star. Javi points out he’d probably end up as Juror #9, which earns him a dramatic sigh from Leo. The mood shifts when Javi gets a note from Tesoro’s birth mother, delivered to the fire station. She writes only that she loves him and that letting him go was the hardest decision she has ever made.

Leo gushes about the loving home they’re giving her child and calls Javi a natural-born dad. Javi’s subtle reaction is the kind of thing that sends soap fans into theory overdrive.

Amy Turns Up the Awkward

In the Square, Sophia is on the phone stressing to Melinda about Tate wanting to see the baby when Amy swoops in. She tries to revive their old friendship, insisting she misses how close they were. Sophia isn’t so sure Amy could understand what she’s been through. Amy pushes her to talk to someone, maybe even Dr. Kiriakis, about possible postpartum depression. Sophia shuts that down instantly.

Javi strolls up with Tesoro in the stroller, and Amy instantly recognizes the little guy from jury selection day. She’s all faux smiles when she realizes Tesoro has not one but two foster dads. Javi cheerfully corrects her that he actually has three. Sophia quickly whisks her mother away after Amy makes a pointed comment about Tesoro looking like Sophia’s brother as a baby. Javi’s polite grin fades the second they’re gone.

EJ’s Hypnosis Breakthrough

At the Pub, Rachel admits to her parents she’s afraid her testimony will land Johnny in prison. They promise other witnesses will take the stand and that there are several people who could have shot EJ. Rachel asks point-blank if Kristen is one of them, but Kristen reminds her she was watching her sleep that night.

Over at the penthouse, Belle is in no mood to cross paths with EJ, but she runs into him as she tries to leave before his hypnosis session. Marlena is thrilled Belle is finally done with him, though she admits she’d do anything to clear Johnny’s name. Under hypnosis, EJ recalls telling “her” to put the gun down, which sends him into a rush of excitement when he realizes the shooter was a woman. That narrows his list to Ava, Gabi, Chanel, or Kristen.

Rachel’s Moment on the Stand

In court, Belle reassures Johnny that his father is to blame for this mess. She makes it clear there’s no forgiving EJ. The judge warns the jury to disregard testimony about the lawyers’ private lives and orders them sequestered until a verdict is reached. Leo loudly objects to losing his phone until the judge’s death glare forces him to back down.

Kristen hugs a nervous Rachel before she is called to testify. On the stand, Rachel says she saw Johnny pointing a gun at EJ, then heard a gunshot after running upstairs. EJ takes over questioning and asks if there was time for Johnny to leave and for someone else to fire the shot. Rachel admits there was. EJ turns to the jury with satisfaction, declaring that’s all he needed. Rachel’s face, however, stays unreadable as she stares at him from the witness stand.
