Y&R Recap | Mariah to Sharon: I Did Something Horrible & Summer Exits Genoa City - Friday, May 2, 2025 [SPOILERS]

Friday on The Young and the Restless, there were career bombshells and mommy meltdowns, plus confessions nobody even asked for. Genoa City is full of side-eyes, secrets, and not-so-subtle shade. The drama is dripping in this Y&R full episode recap.

Home Reno Regrets: Diane’s Redesign Rubs Billy Wrong

Let’s start with the house tour from hell. Billy, our resident nostalgia junkie, swings by the Abbott house to see Diane’s big HGTV moment.

Y&R Preview Video for May 5-9

He walks in, looks around like someone rearranged his childhood memories—and they did. Diane is all smiles, fishing for compliments. Billy? Not having it. He says she did a “nice job,” but honey, his tone said, “I hate it.” Apparently, he liked the house before she turned it into a West Elm showroom. When he tells her it doesn’t feel like home anymore, she looks like someone just canceled her Amazon Prime. Ouch.

At Society: Fashionistas & Former Flames Stir the Pot

Meanwhile, over at Society, Chelsea and Sally are dressed for business but haven’t signed any dotted lines. Both are sitting on job offers like they’re the last two roses on The Bachelor.

Sally’s side-eyeing Chelsea, wondering if Adam—her ex with more layers than a croissant—personally recruited her to Newman Media. Spoiler: he did. But Chelsea’s still “considering” it, aka waiting for the drama forecast to clear.

Just then, Summer steps away for a call, and Sally goes in again, poking around about Adam’s motives. Sally knows Adam’s all about control—like, “keep your enemies close and your exes on payroll” type of control. Then she drops her own career twist: Billy’s offered her Phyllis’ old gig. Yes, that Phyllis. Cue collective gasps and slow claps.

Summer | Y&R

Sally | Y&R

When Summer comes back from her call with Daniel, she’s got gossip too: Daniel’s worried about their mom. Oh, and she casually asks Sally if she’s replacing Phyllis. Just a little mid-lunch betrayal convo, no biggie.

Daddy Drama at the Ranch: Nick Gets Hugs, Adam Gets Snubbed

Over at the ranch, Adam rolls in all dramatic, ready to share “big news” with Victor. Unfortunately for him, Nick arrives at the same time and Victor basically bulldozes past Adam to give Nick a warm welcome-home bear hug. Adam pouts in the background like a kid who brought his dad a handmade ashtray and got ignored.

Adam finally blurts it out—he’s asked Chelsea to be his COO. Victor’s fine with it. Nick tries to play Switzerland and extends a polite “if it makes you happy” handshake. Classic Nick—always the calm in the Adam storm.

Clingy Hugs & Ominous Secrets: Mariah’s Breaking Down

Over at Sharon’s, Mariah is throwing red flags like she’s in a football game. She ignores a call from Tessa, lunges into Sharon’s arms, and mutters, “Thank God you’re home,” like she’s been living in a haunted house. Sharon, always tuned into everyone’s emotional WiFi, knows something’s off.

Later, Mariah cracks. Turns out, Ian’s return triggered all kinds of trauma. Remember, he was her cult leader/faux father figure who drugged her and tried to marry her? Yeah. That guy. Mariah reveals she lost it on her trip—mini-bar meltdown and all—and did something she thinks is “horrible.” So horrible, in fact, she can’t tell Tessa. Ever.

Phyllis Gets Desperate & Weird—with Tessa

Down in the jazz lounge, Phyllis tries to drag Tessa into her mama drama. She wants her to “help” Daniel, which is Phyllis-speak for “spy on him.” Tessa, being the only person in Genoa City with boundaries, shuts it down immediately. But Phyllis isn’t done. She launches into a heartfelt, borderline manipulative monologue about motherhood, bonding, and saving her son’s life. It’s dramatic, it’s messy, and it’s 100% Phyllis.

Tessa, to her credit, is diplomatic. She says she’s just Daniel’s friend and guitar teacher—not his babysitter. Phyllis swears Daniel can multitask. He can pluck chords and work at Abbott Communications. Girl, pick a lane.

Summer Confronts the Power Shifts: Are Chelsea & Sally Selling Out?

Back at Society, Summer is piecing it all together. Chelsea’s likely heading to Newman Media, Sally’s probably filling in for her mom, and Summer? Summer’s losing her whole team. She asks Sally point blank if she ever cared about fashion or if that was just a cute little detour. Sally insists she didn’t lobby for this new gig—it just fell into her lap. Sure, whatever.

Summer gets teary but keeps it classy. She supports them. But make no mistake—she thinks their career changes have a little too much boyfriend influence.

The Champagne Flows, But So Do the Secrets

Downstairs, Chelsea finally pops the champagne with Adam. She’s saying yes to the COO gig, and the toast is all about them taking Newman Media to the next level. They know Sally and Billy will be on the competing team, which makes this a power couple showdown waiting to happen.

Meanwhile, Sally is sipping her own metaphorical bubbly with Billy. Summer told her to “follow her heart,” and Sally’s heart says, “Work with the guy who dumped me but still wants me around 24/7.” Toxic? Maybe. Entertaining? Absolutely.

Sad Girls Club: Summer & Mariah Spiral Quietly

Summer wraps up her week by dropping a bomb on her parents and Kyle: she’s flying to Milan to find new creative directors for Marchetti. Chelsea and Sally are out, and she’s not waiting around to mourn the talent drain. She gives her parents a hug and heads over to see Kyle.

Summer says goodbye to Nick & Phyllis | Y&R

When Summer informs Kyle, Harrison, ever the sweetheart, says he wants to tag along. But Summer has no time for toddler travel—it’s business, not a vacation.

Kyle, meanwhile, casually tells her he might be moving in with Claire. Hasn’t told Harrison yet, but cool cool, we’ll deal with that after Milan. Summer’s left alone, once again proving this girl can’t catch a break.

As for Mariah, she’s drowning in guilt. She tells Sharon that Ian didn’t break her—she did. Whatever she did on that trip was so dark, she thinks it reflects her true character. Sharon tries to reassure her, telling her to confide in Tessa. But Mariah refuses. That secret is locked up tighter than the Newman vault.

Phyllis Makes Her Rounds, Nick Keeps It Cool

Back at Society, Phyllis runs into Nick and fishes for info. Is he going to offer Sharon a role at Newman? Is she still in the game? Nick’s answer is smooth and vague—basically a verbal shrug. Phyllis, ever the actress, insists she’s fine. Of course she is. Just emotionally stalking her grown son’s guitar teacher and manipulating everyone around her. Totally fine.

Closing Curtain: The Battle Lines Are Drawn

So here’s where we’re at: Chelsea and Adam are ready to dominate Newman Media, while Sally and Billy are gearing up to bring some heat over at Abbott Communications. Summer’s flying off to Milan like the stylish boss she is, and Mariah’s living with a secret that could crack her marriage. Diane’s home makeover has Billy emotionally homeless, and Phyllis is burning bridges in heels.
