In Thursday's Beyond the Gates recap, Chelsea throws her lawsuit problems at Bill’s feet, Smitty chases a story that could land him in serious hot water, and Kenneth’s silent stare causes Martin and Vernon to unravel faster than a roll of toilet paper being played with by a kitten. The drama is stacked in this BTG recap!

Bill and Chelsea | BTG, CBS |
Martin’s Flashbacks Get Louder While Vernon Makes Shady Moves
The country club has seen a lot over the years, but now it has a brooding busboy stealing the spotlight. Kenneth is clearly more than just a guy serving cocktails and attitude, and Martin and Vernon know it. Despite Martin practically begging him not to, Vernon calls Kenneth over for a little interrogation session. Kenneth gives them nothing but stone-faced silence, but hearing his voice sends Martin straight into another one of his psychic episodes. The voice he’s been hearing? It’s Kenneth. No doubt.
And as if things weren’t already suspicious enough, Martin forgets his keys at the table, and shocker—they vanish. Vernon’s reaction is pure villain energy as he dials someone up and growls that this was never supposed to happen. He wants the situation “taken care of” immediately. For anyone who thought Vernon was just the uptight family fixer, think again. He’s giving mob boss with a trust fund.
Chelsea’s Purse Dreams Hit a Legal Wall
Chelsea is still basking in the glow of introducing Madison to her family, but Kat yanks her back to reality with a nice thick packet of legal drama. Apparently, the purse line they’re launching might be dead on arrival thanks to a nasty copyright infringement lawsuit. Chelsea tries to deflect by gushing about her new relationship, but once she reads the fine print, she realizes this could be a full-on empire killer.
So what does she do? Runs straight to Daddy Bill for help. Kat, meanwhile, urges Jacob to double-time the search into Lesley, because clearly multitasking is the Dupree way. While Kat’s chasing answers and lawsuits, Naomi informs Jacob about June’s belongings being swiped during yet another raid on the homeless encampment. Luckily, Jacob rolls back in with the box of treasures like a modern-day hero. June clutches her kids’ photo like it’s made of gold and swears she’ll never lose it again.
Kat and Tomas Mix Legal Talk With a Side of Heat
Kat meets up with Tomas to figure out how to get DNA answers on Lesley without getting the police involved. Tomas immediately plays the buzzkill card, warning her that going rogue with evidence will only sabotage her cause in court. Then somehow they segue into a chat about virginity and whether waiting is worth it. Let’s just say Tomas thinks patience pays off, and judging by the way Kat looks at him, she might be thinking about more than just evidence.
Meanwhile, Bill takes one look at the lawsuit Chelsea handed him and practically rolls his eyes. He tells her to forget about it entirely, because the company suing them would have a hard time proving their case. Chelsea leaves feeling like everything’s handled, because of course she does. That’s what dads with millions and a sketchy moral compass are for.
Smitty Sniffs Trouble and Might Be Walking Into It
Over at the station, Jacob is locked in a power struggle with Monroe, and things are tense. But it’s Smitty who might be in the most danger. What started as a fluffy little feature story has turned into a major investigation into Monroe’s shady past. The deeper Smitty digs, the more convinced he becomes that something major went down two years ago involving a big payday and Martin.
Tyrell listens as Smitty lays it all out, but he doesn’t know the half of it. Monroe and the chief are fully aware of Smitty’s little project, and they’re not worried about his journalism degree. They’re worried about how close he’s getting to a buried secret that hits very close to home. As in, his own home. If Smitty thought he was chasing a scandal, he’s about to realize he’s running straight into the fire.
